'Life At Maracas Bay  (LAMB)'    by  Alton Felix. 2018.  Acrylic.  30 cm x 30 cm.

Artist's Commentary:

God is my Rock! The mountain in this painting personifies Christ whose lifeless body lies prostrate on the ground along the Bay.
“Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!" (John 1:29).

This sacrificial death for mankind by crucifixion  is mirrored by the position of the human-like figure at the base of the tree in the painting .

John 3:16 states that Jesus came to save sinners - just like me. He is a life-saver! The yellow 'hut-like' structure on the beach in the painting  reminds us of the important job that life-guards do. Oh yes! Jesus is our Life-Guard who is well able and ready to save those who are drowning in the sea of sin. But we must call out to Him, "Save  me, Lord!"

Another figure in the foreground  stands with outstretched hands as though making an offering of sorts - again reminding us of Jesus - the Lamb of God who came as a sacrificial offering for the sins of mankind.  It takes  'child-like' faith to believe that Jesus died for my sins and through Him I can now receive the gift of salvation.

But what should we do with that gift after we have received it?  At Maracas Bay, the boat, as seen  in the painting, is mainly used by fishermen. But Jesus said,

"Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men."

In short, the gift of salvation is not an 'end in itself,' which only enables us to enjoy everlasting life in heaven It is also a 'means to an end,' whereby each believer has a responsibility to share the gift of the good news of Jesus with others, so that they, too, can be saved.

This is my interpretation of the painting. What do you see, and what is your interpretation of the piece?

All honour and glory belong to God, and His Son Jesus! Be blessed.
