EXHIBITION #1: STEPS TO SALVATION
STEP FOUR: (a) I'M BROKEN;
(b) I AM SORRY FOR MY SINS, AND I TURN AWAY FROM THEM.
PAINTING # 8: BROKEN!
"The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; A broken and a contrite heart, O God, You will not despise." - Psalm 51:16
'Broken!' by Alton Felix. 2012. Acrylic on Canvas . 30 cm x 30 cm.
Artist's Commentary:
The events of life, for example, the loss of a loved one, may cause us to experience a broken heart. Words cannot begin to describe the levels of grief and pain that accompany those sad moments.
Another face of brokenness is seen when sin enters our hearts and results in pain and suffering.
David, for example, prayed these words when he was dealing with the sin of adultery in his life:
"The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; A broken and a contrite heart, O God, You will not despise." - Psalm 51:16
Whether or we are dealing with personal tragedies or the effects of sin , the end result is the same as shown in the painting. There is no longer wholeness as 'brokenness' has caused separation, fragmentation and hurt. In moments like these we can find strength in a loving God and comfort in His precious Son, Jesus. May you allow the love and mercy of God to heal your broken heart.
The pencil in the painting is symbolic of the success story that will be written about you as a result of God's unending love and faithfulness in your life. Today, this new journey begins.
All honour and glory belong to God, and His Son Jesus! Be blessed.
